Synopsis
FRIDA EN EL ESPEJO/FRIDA IN THE MIRROR demonstrates the diversity, power and tenderness of women by honoring the legendary figure of Frida Kahlo. Twenty women dressed like Frida, a woman who revolutionized the concept of pain in modern art were filmed and edited in one day.
The video is an independent production of the visual artist and poet Adrian Arias. “FRIDA EN EL ESPEJO/FRIDA IN THE MIRROR” was recorded on August 2nd 2008, at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts as part of the "Frida Was Here Day" in San Francisco’s Mission District and also exhibited as part of the installation "Frida on Paper".



Crew
The song "FRIDA EN EL ESPEJO/FRIDA IN THE MIRROR" is performed by Mexican singer/performerMamacoatl, with music by Grammy nominee Greg Landau and Mamacoatl, and lyrics by prize-winning poet Adrian Arias, accompanied by Mirella Leon, a 13 year old musician. The music composed and produced a few days before the shoot is an assemblage of Mexican Son Jarocho, a rhythm of great poetic expression and Afro-Peruvian music, sensual and free from southern coastal Peru.
The twenty Fridas are: Sedey Gebreyes, Paloma Parra, Anais Arias-Aragon, Tiffany Graham, Anna Ciacella, Jamille Griss, Sachiko Morino, Nadja Haas, Angela Carrier, Diana McCullough, Sabina Nieto, Meklit Hadero, Diana Marcela Suarez-Vargas, Susan Matthews, Joscelyne Riobo, Sofía Riobo, Nina Serrano, Joui Turandot, Alexa Fabrega and the singer is Mamacoatl.
